Wings in front of motorcycles, increasingly used in MotoGP, wAS criticism from Pedrosa and Crutchlow after first free practice at Losail
In the first free practice session of the 2016 MotoGP season, the wings on the front of the bikes were the center of attention. Last year, Ducati used the aerodynamic elements throughout the season, while the Yamaha tested in some tests.
During the first track activity at Losail, Honda joined the group of 'winged'. However, there are between the pilots of the Japanese manufacturer who worry about the consequences of using them for the safety of the pilots.
Crutchlow, satellite rider Saitama brand, had already shown concern about the possibility of a pilot be cut if hit by appendices.
Pedrosa, who is the official Honda team and tested the wings on Thursday, highlighted another negative aspect of resource use: a turbulence.
"We saw this in Australia, when we walk behind the group. When approaching a motorcycle with wings, turbulence was huge," said Pedrosa.
Asked by Motorsport.com the concern with the risks generated by the wings had already been discussed with the MotoGP, the Spaniard said that the issue is already on the agenda. "We're talking about it," he said.
While Marquez tested two sizes of wings in the first free practice, Pedrosa revealed that only tested with the smaller but said he probably experience the biggest wings on Friday.
Crutchlow: Turbulence "from another world"
Crutchlow agreed with Pedrosa on the issue of turbulence, especially when walking behind Ducati bikes.
"The turbulence on the floor behind a bike with wings is something from another world. When you are behind a Ducati, turbulence is huge. At Phillip Island I was behind Pedrosa, who followed (Andrea) Iannone. I thought Pedrosa would be ejected from the bike at any time, "he added.
