Lorenzo says he does not think about Rossi's performance at Ducati

Valentino Rossi had great difficulties during his time at the Ducati in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, failing to win a race with the Italian team before returning to Yamaha in 2013.

Now three-time champion Jorge Lorenzo is making the same move, leaving the Japanese team and trying to bring his first MotoGP title to Ducati since 2007.

Speaking during the launch event on Friday (20), Lorenzo said the results obtained by Rossi are irrelevant.

"The drivers are different, the boss is different and so will probably be the performance of the bike. I do not compare myself and I will not put my attention on what happened in the past."

"I do not know what level I'll be able to get soon, but I'm sure that sooner or later I'll be very competitive and I'll be winning races."

Championship should not be obsession

Speaking at the Ducati launch, Gigi Dall'Igna, head of the team, said that recruiting Lorenzo shows a new winning mentality for his team and that there are now no more excuses for failure.

But the Spanish rider warned that it would be important for the team not to want to win the championship for the first time in a decade at all costs.

"It will be a big mistake if we become obsessed with the world championship, because this is the best way to lose ourselves and make mistakes," added Lorenzo.

"Our obsession should be in improving our package, driver, team, people and especially the bike."

"Only with the best package can we be world champions."
